Donnie Darko – A Classic that Deserves Credit
I recently had the pleasure of re-watching Donnie Darko on direct tv in texas; a great movie that hardly gets the recognition it deserves! I was quite surprised the first time I ever watched Donnie Darko, mostly because of how complex and well written it was: especially for an independent film on a low budget.
Every time I watch Donnie Darko the story captures me and draws me in, I constantly see something new that I missed the previous time I watched the movie. The soundtrack is wonderful and the fundamental message of the movie seems to be quite meaningful. Even though I had already seen Donnie Darko, the ending always makes me sad. Donnie Darko is such a great character it makes you sad to see him pass but then again, that is the entire staple of the story and what makes Donnie Darko such a great movie.
The producer Richard Kelly did a fantastic job at connecting the viewer to the characters. The acting of Jake Gyllenhaal certainly makes the process much smoother since he does a great job at playing the troubled Donnie Darko. There are many other outstanding performances in Donnie Darko including Patrick Swayze as ‘Jim Cunningham’.
The primary story of Donnie Darko is said to be about ‘Time Travel‘ although once you actually watch the movie you will quickly realized the message is about life and emotions and those that are so deeply connected to it. The movie carries a message about free will, love and sacrifice. I loved the movie Donnie Darko the first time I saw it and again the second time. I was delightfully surprised to see it show up on my channel listing when browsing through my cable listings! I hope to see it again because it is truly one of my favorite movies for good reason.
